Assignment 12A: Buyer Behavior No. 1

For this assignment, I have chosen potential customers who are all boat owners in Tampa. Interview one was with a boat owner in Tampa that has not been happy with the repairs that he received on this vessel. He said no professional repair services exist in Tampa thus far. He ended the interview by promising he would be a loyal customer to my upcoming business.

Interview two was with a buddy that goes to school here at UF. I did not know this kid before college and he lives in St. Petersburg which is about 30 minutes away from Tampa. He too struggles with his boat repairs and never knows where to take his boat for repair. He stated he usually jumps around mechanics until he is “half satisfied” with the work they perform.

Interview three was with the same bait shop owner that I have previously interviewed in an assignment. He told me that if I were to start this business it would be very lucrative. He compared the car servicing shops, such as jiffy lube, to what my company could become in the boat industry.

From doing these interviews, I learned that there are many potential customers that would pay the price for these professional services. They all had the common goal of finding a new and improved mechanic shop that sticks to a strict schedule. I also learned how extreme of a need this is, not only in the Tampa bay area, but all around Florida. This helped me to learn the type of people I would need to target for this potential business. After all three of these interviews, I came to the conclusion that this a prominent need and I will be meeting many goals.

I would describe this assignment as extremely helpful in creating a business plan. This was more challenging because it makes you think and develop answers to questions and problems that may exist within a business. The plan starts off as a concept and continues to gain traction and make more sense in the business world. There are many more opportunities for success than failure in this business proposal.

  1. Hey Dylan! You did great on this week’s post. You included a lot of detailed information when writing your post. This definitely helped me understand the customer need. I wish you were more specific about the people you interviewed. Providing the reader with details such as name, age, and more specifics would allow you to prove your interviews. Overall, great job and great business opportunity!
