Assignment 27A: Reading Reflection No. 3
Reading Reflection No. 3
The Long Tail: Why the Future of Business is Selling Less for More, Chris
Anderson
This reading was very interesting and beneficial. It shows
the trend how little, non-popular products that do not the title
advantage have been recently been selling more than popular products. This can be due to the huge fluctuations
in profits and income that has led people to turn to cheaper products and the fact the do not
care about the major brand names.
This reading correlated a little to what we are learning in Entrepreneurship
class. This had more to do with product consumption and why people are picking alternatives. Although this could have helped before I formed my idea, at this point of time left in class it doesn’t really matter. The trend that people are turning to niche
brands could have affected the product or service I chose, and it actually is a
very interesting topic in the modern industry.
I would design an assignment or post in this class that will
inform the students about the recent trend toward niche products. I would then
have the student conduct a potential product that is a niche and that it provides better benefits then the main brand name products.
I was actually surprised by the entire reading. It was strange
how niche products are being sold more and producing higher revenues compared to
the big named products especially in today’s society.
Dylan,
ReplyDeleteThis was a very interesting post to read. I was a bit shocked to hear that people are turning towards more niche products than long established producers that have much larger businesses. I believe that this could be a a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to exploit in order to get a business idea off the ground. This market can create even more opportunities later on as well. This will be a great area to keep track of in the future.
Dylan,
ReplyDeleteI personally have not read the book you wrote about above, but I can say I'm intrigued. This book seems to really hammer out the finite measurable that are essential to becoming a successful in entrepreneurship.
Hey Dylan!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on this week’s blog post. I did not read this story, so I found your blog post to be very interesting and I learned a lot about The Long Tail. I really enjoyed your idea about an assignment for this class about niche products. Niche products are very undervalued, so this will allow the students to open their imagination to them and incorporate them into their ventures. Overall, great job on this week’s assignment!
Hi Dylan,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your third reading reflection. The book you chose was the book I was actually thinking about reading but I chose a different one instead. This book would be great when creating an initial idea because since it deals with why people choose alternatives, you can use the knowledge to build your competitive advantage against other brands and make sure you re chosen instead.
