Assignment 13A: Reading Reflection No. 1
Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson
1.
a.
What
surprised you the most?
I did not know that Steve Jobs faced all the
obstacles when creating his invention.
b. What about the entrepreneur did you admire?
I most admired Jobs dedication to his
creation. He showed this when he dropped out of college and started his
multibillion dollar company in his own garage.
c. What about the entrepreneur did you least
admire?
I had no idea what Jobs experimented with
LSD. That is frowned upon in today’s culture but back then that was a social
norm.
d. Did the entrepreneur encounter adversity
and failure? If so, what did they do about it?
Steve Jobs faced adversity and failure early
on during his upbringing. His college career was a failure and his company
failed hard many times due to set backs.
2.
What competencies did you notice the
entrepreneur exhibit?
Steve Jobs is a hardworking man
that would not give up his invention and would not be as hardworking and
successful as he is today.
3.
Identify one part of the reading
that was confusing to you.
I don’t know why Steve Jobs dropped
out of college. He could have brought up his invention and finished college,
but did not decide to go this route.
4.
If you were able to ask questions,
what would you ask? Why?
How did such a successful invention
come into your head? What made you think of apple? Did you regret dropping out
of college after the fact?
5.
For fun: what do you think the entrepreneur’s opinion was of hard work?
Do you share that opinion?
Hard work to Steve Jobs is probably
dedicating yourself to something until it is successful. Let no obstacles or
bumps in the road drive you away from what you think could be a success.
Hi Dylan!
ReplyDeleteMy second choice for this reading was this book, so I am glad I get to read these little reviews on it. Both of our entrepreneurs we read about experimented with drugs and I think it is important to not have this image that all amazing entrepreneurs do/did drugs to get to where they are now. You could improve on elaborating more with your answers!
Dylan, I have not had the opportunity to read this book yet about Steve Jobs, but after reading your reflection I'm gonna have to put it on my to-do list! This is a very interesting take on how even Steve Jobs who we know as the brain behind Apple, struggled and faced bigotry on his way to becoming one of the most successful men in history!
ReplyDeleteHey Dylan!
ReplyDeleteGreat job on this week’s blog post! I also read and wrote about Steve Jobs in my blog post, so I can relate to many topics in your post. We both discussed Jobs’ experimentation with psychedelic drugs while he was a young adult. This truthfully surprised me since Jobs is very well-known and does not seem to be the type to experiment with drugs. I was also shocked that Jobs decided to drop out of college. We definitely discussed a lot of the same topics in our blog posts. Overall, you did great!
